Cheap Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

If you’re single on Valentine’s Day, maybe you should consider yourself lucky for once. With unemployment rates skyrocketing, some of us just can’t afford to shell out the cash for drinks, a fancy dinner, and a flashy piece of jewellery this time around. However, if you’ve got a guy or gal expecting a memorable and romantic night this Valentine’s Day, then we’ve got your back. Here are some wallet-friendly date ideas:
Cook dinner at home – this is the simplest and easiest way to both save money and impress your sweetheart. You can whip up a gourmet meal for a lot less than you’d be charged at a restaurant, and you won’t spend V-Day surrounded by other couples being all lovey-dovey. Even if you’re no pro in the kitchen, go for it anyway. Your date will appreciate the effort all that much more.
Have a romantic date night-in – this goes right along with cooking dinner at home: if you have a bathtub, you’re golden. Set your bathroom up with some candles, speakers playing some sexy tunes (keep these as far away from the water as possible, of course), and don’t be stingy with the bubble bath. Or you could kick back with your favorite movie and a big bowl of popcorn. The possibilities are only as endless as your imagination and can be virtually free.
Free and sexy games* – turn up the heat and the fun in your own living room by challenging your date to a game of strip poker. Or strip anything, for that matter! Use what you’ve got to get you both in the mood for love. *This is really only recommended as a follow-up to a thoughtful home-cooked dinner.
Go out – if you’re determined to go out, then do it on the cheap! Weather permitting, take a long walk to a scenic or romantic place that may have some significance to the two of you (or maybe it will just have significance from now on, wink wink). Even the simplest activity can be special if you put in the effort to make it that way!
Keep in mind, a date who gets huffy or acts disappointed in your non-flashy Valentine’s Day evening just because you can’t spare the dough probably isn’t worth keeping around for much longer anyway!
Or, you can take a look at our V-Day date ideas for the less budget conscious.
