We at the HOTorNOT team wanted to say hi to all you readers and users of our wonderful website. We also wanted to share our enthusiasm about mustache day in the office-
Keep coming back to the blog because our job is to cheer you on from the sidelines as you enjoy what HOTorNOT has to offer, whether you’re here to rate hotties, make a new friend, or search for your soulmate. Our other job is to dish on anything and everything related to dating, both online and offline. We’ll get back to basics, covering topics like first date dos and don’ts, how to kick an online relationship to the next level, how to make yourself stand out amongst the hordes of other eligible bachelors or bachelorettes vying for someone’s attention. And of course, we’ll keep you posted on any new features and changes taking place on HOTorNOT. There’s a little something for everyone!

Update: We’ve now installed an updated security certificate.
Some of our members have written to us about a problem we’re currently experiencing with an expired security certificate on our secure site. We’ve verified this problem and are in the process of updating our certificate. Rest assured that this is a temporary warning and although we take the matter very seriously, our site remains secure.
We thank you for pointing out the problem to us and please be patient as we resolve it in the next day or so.

So, we had a few little problems this weekend…
First, some of you might have noticed that the rating system was acting a little weird: You might not have received any votes, or you might have not received an email you expected… we are really sorry about these issues, but the good news is that we have now solved the problems for good.
The second problem happened Tuesday morning as some unsent emails from the past few months all went out at the same time! So, if you received a few unexpected emails from us please keep in mind that it was a mistake on our part and it will not happen again.
Once again, we’re really sorry, and as always, thanks for being a part of the Hot or Not community.

Have you come across a hottie you just think is soooo HOT? And, you just need to share them with all your friends? Well, we’ve made it easier and better then ever to do so.
How did we do it? We added a NEW FEATURE that enables you to spread the hotness of HOT or NOT to all your friends – ADDRESS BOOK IMPORTER! (insert applause here).
Step 1: Click “Share by Email” (located under the hottie you want to share).
Step 2: Based on how you roll, click on either the “Add from my address book” button, or click on the “To” link.
Step 3: Choose the appropriate program or service you use for email.
Step 4: Add your contacts.
Step 5: Add a personalized message and hit “send”. Voila! You just shared a hottie!
Just follow those simple steps and you’ll become a hero amongst your friends. You’ll be known as “that guy” who spreads hotness to each of them everyday by sending new hotties. Psst. click “Yes” before you start sharing, as ya know your friends will be hitting that too.

In the beginning, it was YELLOW: From the birth of HOT or NOT, until mid-2008, the rate bar was YELLOW. Do the ladies go for the blue, and the men go for the bold yellow? Do you prefer the easy on the eyes, calm, smooth blue, or the bright, bold, in your face yellow?

It’s been a few short days since we launched the HOT or NOT iPhone App and already iTunes lists it as the #4 Social Networking app. w00t!
That’s behind Facebook, MySpace and AIM. Just you wait AOL, we’re coming after YOU!
We’ve been thrilled with the response. We’ve even had to add more moderators to get all your profiles approved at our usual lighting-quick rate of 10-15 minutes.
iPhone photos are starting to pepper the site, especially in some regions of the country and even the world. Like France! We had no idea you were so iPhone crazy. Alors, bonjour mes frères!
We’re thinking of having a contest for the best photo of you TAKEN on your iPhone that INCLUDES your iPhone. Whaddaya think?

It’s a silly little thing, but… you know your double match list on your dashboard?
For the longest time it’s shown a random set of people. Each time you refresh your dashboard you’d see a different set of your matches.
We had a few people suggest that it might make more sense to show your NEWEST matches.
So that’s what we did.

Update May 26, 2009: We’re happy to announce that we’ve completely revamped the chat service and it’s now enabled across the site.
Update Jan 26, 2009: We’ve run a two week trial and got a mixed review. Most of you loved it. However, some people found it slowed down their browsers. We have turned it off until we get to the bottom of exactly which browser/operating system combinations it is, and how to fix it.
Hey everyone! We launched a trial of a new chat system about 48 hours ago. If you tell us you like it, it’ll replace our old chat system. So far y’all have sent 100,000 messages in the new system.
The old chat system is clunky, standalone, and not well-loved by anyone we talked to. The new chat is built into the bottom of every page of HOT or NOT. This means that everyone in the system is now chattable, rather than the small population who cared to open the old one.

What’s so great about the new chat?
- Many more people to chat with because everyone that’s on HOT or NOT is on chat
- Easily see who’s available for chatting
- Chat with multiple people at once
- Simpler, easier to use
- You get immediate notification when people want to chat with you regardless of what page you’re on — you don’t have to open a separate chat window anymore!
There’s a feedback button built into the new chat bar. You guys have been using it with abandon. We’ve been listening to it all and have been rolling out several releases a day with changes based on that feedback.
The top things currently on our list:
- Off Button. Make it painfully obvious how to turn the thing off. There’s a way right now, we keep making it more obvious, apparently we need to go further.
- Performance. We’ve already improved performance a lot, and our tools show page load times are good, but we still get some complaints that it’s slowing down page load. We will keep improving.
- Separate Window. Some of you want chat, but not in the HOT or NOT pages. We’re making a way to pop it out.

Who’s getting this new chat trial?
Everyone sees the chat bar at the bottom of their screen.
Can I use the OLD chat?
Yes. The old chat works the same as before.
Does new chat talk to old chat?
No. They are two separate systems.
Can I turn it off?
Yes. Click the little green dot at the right corner of the chat bar.
Can I stop others from contacting me?
Yes. Click the little green dot at the right corner of the chat bar. There’s an option to “go offline”. Just like in the IM world, that means you can initiate conversations but other people don’t see you in their list of available chatters.
